Yesterday Hymid, a proud member of MAKE UK, hosted an event taking part in the annual National Manufacturing Day 2024 event at our Torquay facility. We welcomed 60 students from four local schools for a day of manufacturing-based games, activities, and of course our annual design challenge…
Engaging Students in STEM
The participating students were divided into teams of five and competed against each other in various manufacturing-related challenges. Points were awarded based on their participation, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
One of the highlights of the event was the design challenge, where each team was tasked with creating a trophy for the winning team. The winning design would later be brought to life by our talented Designer’s using 3D printing technology. The winning team would also receive Chilly's water bottles. Chilly’s are one of our longstanding development partners, and were happy to show their support to help students into STEM.
We were honoured to have the Mayor of Torbay, Hannah Stevens, and JoJo Ramsden, Senior Economic Development Officer at Torbay Council, in attendance. Their presence demonstrated their strong support for local manufacturing in the area. Additionally, a representative from Make UK joined us to show their support for our event.
A Successful Day of Learning and Fun
The National Manufacturing Day event was a resounding success. Our goal was to inspire the next generation of manufacturers and showcase the exciting opportunities available within the industry. By providing students with hands-on experiences and engaging activities, we hope to have sparked their interest in pursuing careers in manufacturing.
