Celebrating Future Innovators: Torquay Girls' Grammar School Wins Hymid’s 2024 Trophy

At Hymid, we believe the future of UK manufacturing lies in the hands of today’s students. That’s why each year, we proudly participate in MAKE UK’s National Manufacturing Day, opening our doors to inspire the next generation of engineers, designers, and innovators. The 2024 event was our funnest yet, hosting over 45 GCSE students from three local schools for a day of engaging manufacturing-themed games and activities. After much enthusiasm and competition, Torquay Girls' Grammar School emerged as the victorious school - the winning team being 'The Green Team'!

On a crisp December morning, we visited Torquay Girls' Grammar School to celebrate their achievement and present their team with the coveted trophy.

A Trophy Born of Talent and Innovation

The trophy itself was a collaboration between the students and our design team. Using the girls’ winning pencil sketch, our talented Design Engineer, Emma transformed the concept into a 3D model using advanced CAD software and techinques. From there, the design was brought to life using state-of-the-art 3D printing technology before being hand-painted for the perfect finishing touch.

The result? A unique and meaningful trophy that perfectly encapsulates the creativity and teamwork showcased by the students during National Manufacturing Day.

Going the Extra Mile with Chilly’s

In addition to the trophy, every year Hymid presents the winning team with Chilly’s water bottles —a nod to sustainable, practical, and innovative design and a much valued customer of Team Hymid. This year, however, Chilly’s went above and beyond to support our event and the next generation of STEM leaders and workers. The team at Chilly’s offered their premium engraving service free of charge, adding an extra special touch to the prizes. Each bottle was beautifully engraved with the #NMD2024 logo celebrating their win and helping to creating last memories of their success!
